Tram defect at Deansgate-Castlefield (15 June 2026)

At around 15:40 BST on Monday, 15 June 2026, tram number 3117/3094 stopped at Deansgate-Castlefield's outbound platform, after the driver identified that an object had gotten stuck on the underside of the tram. The service was a double (two coupled trams, 3117/3094), and the object (which looked like a pipe or something?) was stuck at the front of tram 3094 near the coupler.

Tram 3119/3094 stopped at Deansgate-Castlefield, 16:15.

Tram services were put on stop heading towards Deansgate-Castlefield in the south-west direction at around 15:40.

Directly behind the 3117/3094 service to Eccles via MediaCityUK was 3080 to East Didsbury stopped at the track crossing, and 3042/3009 to Altrincham behind it, then on stop at St Peter's Square Platform B was 3101/???? to East Didsbury. All of these drivers had been informed of the exact situation.

Trams inbound from Deansgate-Castlefield continued to run.

A few ticket inspectors were positioned on the inbound/centre platforms before the disruptions began, and they mostly cleared off a little while after the incident began. A few TravelSafe officers were then deployed to Deansgate-Castlefield to assist passengers continuing with their journey.

At the scene, 16:20. The object has been removed and is in the worker’s hand.

The object was removed at 16:20, and the tram was taken out of service and departed to return to Trafford Depot at 16:21.

After that, tram services outbound were on the move again. Passengers had been cleared off the tram shortly after the driver stopped at the platform initially at around 15:40. Some passengers previously travelling on the Eccles service were left on the platform, which was seen crowded after 3119/3094 departed, and others had left to find another way to reach their destination.

The next Eccles via MediaCityUK service was instead displayed as a MediaCityUK service. Assuming this wasn’t a mistake, it was probably turned around early to replace the Ashton-under-Lyne service (the other end of the route) that 3119/3094 would have made up. The missing tram would have been entered into service at a later time.
