Tram fault at Market Street (2 Oct 2026)
On Friday 2 October 2026 at 18:59 BST, an incident was announced on the Bee Network website and on the app that a double tram (fleet no. 3026/3055) had failed to start at Market Street. The messages read: “Due to a tram fault, outbound services to Bury and Rochdale will now operate via Exchange Square. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
A failed tram at Market Street whilst trams continue to run at the opposite platform, 2 October 2026.
Notice that it was only outbound services. The tram pictured above in the foreground (the failed tram) was only blocking trams from running via Market Street heading towards Victoria. Services via Market Street from Victoria were still allowed to operate.
This meant that Altrincham - Bury services which travel via Market Street were diverted via Exchange Square heading towards Victoria (St Peter’s Square > Exchange Square > Victoria), but travelled the usual way via Market Street heading in the opposite direction (Victoria > Market Street > St Peter’s Square).
No other services were affected, as Piccadilly Gardens improvement works were ongoing at this time, which meant no services were running through Piccadilly Gardens.
Out of service tram at St Peter's Square Platform C, 2 October 2026.
Before services were diverted via Exchange Square, trams which had already ended up on the Market Street route (1CC) had to be stopped.
Queue of trams at St Peter's Square, 2 October 2026.
This caused a short queue of trams at St Peter’s Square which couldn’t move until the failed tram was clear of Market Street.
I didn’t stay for too long and so I didn’t see when the disruption ended.
