Furness Quay (Summer 2026 track repairs)

Over the recent major closure of the Metrolink between 13 July and 2 August 2026, repair works were done on multiple sections of track across the Metrolink network…

…including on the Eccles Line between Salford Quays and Anchorage on the Furness Quay ramp. The tight curves of track on the ramp limit tram speeds to 10mph, but track conditions have limited it further to 5mph for the last couple of years. Since Cornbrook Junction was closed for repairs, the Eccles and Trafford Park lines had to close as well (because of where the tram depots are located), so the closure was utilised for this work to take place.

I visited only on Day 2 of the works whilst they were in progress. I’m not sure if the works here in particular lasted the full 21 days, as the road closure of The Quays only lasted until 26 July 2026.

The equipment and vehicles for repairs were stored south of the ramp on the tram-only section next to Ontario Basin.

Also whilst the Eccles Line was closed, some of the stops along the line (and the tracks surrounding) were cleaned and maintained. There were other TSRs in place at MediaCityUK and Langworthy, but no works were captured at these sites, so it is uncertain if they were resolved.
