Further drainage works at Monsall

(last updated 1 Aug 2026)

On 7 June and 12 July 2026, further full closures of the Rochdale Line happened after the recent major two-week closure. I captured some further works happening at Monsall in the pictures below on these two days:

7 June 2026 - Workers and RRVs on the tracks at Monsall.

They temporarily removed the track crossover during the works. They did the same over the previous closure (16-29 May) and the next (12 July).

7 June 2026 - Metrolink works at Monsall

7 June 2026 - The new tracks laid between 16-29 May looking east from the Jocelyn Street bridge.

Over the 16-29 May closure, they replaced both tracks around Monsall for some distance. On 7 June, they did additional drainage works between the tracks west of the Jocelyn Street bridge.

12 July 2026 - Working east of Monsall.

On 12 July 2026, they focused on working east of the Jocelyn Street bridge.

12 July 2026 - RRV on the tracks west of Monsall.

There were still some spare concrete sleepers on the track bed west of Monsall, where the initial load (for the 16-29 May works) was placed on 22 March.

7 June 2026 - Replacement bus to Rochdale.

Replacement buses ran on 7 June and 12 July between Victoria and Rochdale Town Centre, not calling at Oldham King Street due to a building collapse or Oldham Central due to pedestrianisation.

Other works may have been happening at other locations on the Rochdale Line over these closures.
